Through this project I wanted to soften the image that pit bulls often have in the media. Depicted as ruthless beasts, these dogs are actually some of the most loyal and loving. After decades of negative portrayal, the pit bull’s true nature is finally coming to the surface. I want to advance that further by creating images that show the pit bull as a positive, playful, and significant member of the family, instead of an object which has been used, neglected, and abused. Dog attacks do happen, but they are not breed specific. There is no reason to criminalize an entire breed due to the actions of an individual. Dogs should be judged on an individual basis, just like humans. I juxtapose portraits of pit bulls with positive imagery such as flowers, replacing the negative imagery that is usually associated with pit bulls (chains, locks, etc.). I want people to see these dogs in a different light.
